Shared Hosting Compared: Real Prices and Renewals in 2026
Shared hosting is the cheapest way to put a website online: the host runs the server, the control panel, email and security, and you share the machine with other customers. We track shared hosting from 31 providers, including the renewal price wherever a host publishes one — because in this category the price you pay in year two is often several times the headline. The table below ranks every provider by our DHH Score, and prices refresh every few hours.
Shared hosting in 2026: the market at a glance
Headline prices have never been lower: the lowest first-term price in our tracker right now is Web Hosting Basic at Site.eu, $0.57 a month. But these prices are introductory. Most big hosts sell the first term at a steep discount and then renew at their regular rate: IONOS's Plus goes from $1.00 to $14.00, Gandi's Web Hosting Essential from $2.00 to $15.00, and SiteGround's StartUp from $3.99 to $17.99. A fair comparison looks at both numbers.

The renewal trap, in numbers
The gap between the first-term price and the renewal rate is the single most important number in shared hosting. DreamHost's Web Hosting Launch renews at $11.99 after $1.99, ChemiCloud's Starter at $11.95 after $1.95, GreenGeeks' Lite at $13.95 after $2.95, and Hostinger's Premium at $10.99 after $2.99. If you plan to keep the site for more than a year, budget with the renewal rate and compare hosts on what three years cost you, not on the first month.
What's included — and what isn't
- Free domain for the first year: Hostinger, Namecheap, IONOS, HostPapa, GreenGeeks, DreamHost, ChemiCloud, 123 Reg and Web Hosting Canada include one with qualifying plans, usually on annual terms. SiteGround does not include a domain.
- Free SSL is standard: nearly every shared host we track includes a certificate, most of them through Let's Encrypt.
- Backups differ most. SiteGround keeps daily backups for 30 days, ChemiCloud runs daily off-site backups, DreamHost, GreenGeeks and UltaHost back up daily, and Hostinger backs up weekly on its entry plan.
- Money-back window: ChemiCloud offers 45 days; Hostinger, SiteGround, GreenGeeks, DreamHost, IONOS, HostPapa and Namecheap offer 30; 123 Reg 14 and MonoVM 7. Easyspace and Servarica publish no money-back guarantee.
Performance: storage, web server and platform
Storage type is the easiest performance signal to read from a price list: HostPapa, IONOS, ChemiCloud, UltaHost and Timeweb put their entry shared plans on NVMe, while SiteGround, GreenGeeks, Namecheap and Hostinger's cheapest plan list SSD. The web server matters too: Hostinger, GreenGeeks and ChemiCloud run LiteSpeed with its caching plugin, Turbify runs LiteSpeed on Microsoft Azure, and SiteGround runs on Google Cloud with its own caching layer.
Support: who picks up the phone
Phone support is no longer a given. HostPapa, IONOS, InterServer, GreenGeeks, SiteGround, 123 Reg, Web Hosting Canada and Turbify answer the phone around the clock. Hostinger, Namecheap and DreamHost support you through live chat and tickets, and Websavers works by ticket and email only.
Where the servers are
For a local business, host close to your customers. SiteGround runs 11 Google Cloud locations on four continents, ChemiCloud 16 data centers, UltaHost 27, and Hostinger and IONOS 10 each. Canadian sites have Web Hosting Canada (Montreal and Vancouver), HostPapa (Toronto), Websavers (Beauharnois, Quebec) and Servarica (Montreal); UK sites have Easyspace, with its own UK data centres, and 123 Reg.

Popular Shared Hosting comparisons
FAQ
In our live tracker the lowest first-term price for shared hosting is Web Hosting Basic at Site.eu: $0.57 a month. Promo prices like this usually require prepaying a year or more and renew higher, so compare the renewal rate as well — the sample table above shows both.
Hosts use a discounted first term to win customers and count on most of them staying. The regular price starts at the first renewal: IONOS's entry plan renews at $14.00 after $1.00, and SiteGround's at $17.99 after $3.99. Moving to another host at renewal time is the usual way around it.
For most blogs, portfolios and small business sites, yes. Look for NVMe storage, a LiteSpeed or similar caching stack and daily backups. Once a site outgrows shared resources, managed WordPress hosting or a VPS is the next step.
Many do for the first year, usually on annual terms: Hostinger, Namecheap, IONOS, HostPapa, GreenGeeks, DreamHost and ChemiCloud all list one. The domain then renews at the registrar rate, so check that price too. SiteGround does not include a domain.
Shared hosting runs many customers' sites under one operating system managed by the host; you get a control panel, not a server. A VPS gives you a virtual machine with its own operating system and root access. Shared hosting is cheaper and needs no server administration; a VPS is more flexible and more predictable under load.
The Uptime 30d column is our own measurement: we request each provider's website every few minutes from our monitoring server and average the last 30 days. It reflects how well a company runs its own infrastructure, not the uptime of your site, and no provider pays to rank.
